50 Shades of Grey: The Look of Luxury
Posted on 11 February 2015
One of this year's most highly anticipated films just got a little more luxurious. We all knew that Mr Grey had a wild and adventurous side and it seems that his choice of furniture is no exception to that trait. The set has been fitted out with some of the finest items from the very best in the business. Brabbu, Boca Do Lobo, DelightFULL and Koket all have stunning pieces on display in the film, filling Mr Grey's world with the ultimate in luxury and design. Below are just a few sneak peaks from the set to reveal the real stars of the show and how you can have a little bit of Mr Grey's world for your very own.
The dining area imaged above contains two very distinct pieces from Boca Do Lobo and DelightFULL. The Symphony sideboard looks stunning with its clustered brass tube design, creating even more of a view against the backdrop of Seattle, framing the window perfectly. As you can see from the set image, the sideboard works particularly well with rich tones such as the beautiful emerald green drapes. On top of the sideboard sits the Coltrane table lamp which draws attention with its sculptural and prominent shape. The style almost reminds me of a grand pipe organ that has been elegantly sliced to reveal its smooth metallic inside. The contrast in colour really accentuates the shape of this lamp which again is transformed when switched on.
The entrance hall / foyer to the apartment contains several beautiful designs, each with their own individual personalities. The two designs in particular that really stand out are items from Koket and DelightFULL. In the distance stands the very magical Burlesque console that appears to balance on seven brass hoops. The console contains four draws elegantly wrapped in exotic skin and finished off with black crystal handles in reference to the rich and dazzling world of French cabaret. To the right of the set image proudly sits the Turner Table lamp, a personal favourite of mine. It's simple Art Deco form rotates, enabling the selection of a desired form, allowing the lamp to take on different personas.
The lounge area takes on a softer approach to design with the Desire sofa and chair by Koket. There is a feminine presence with these two items that allows them appear elegant and gracious, floating above the floor with the aid of their light brass frames. The matt brass frames have a hammered finish to them which creates a contrast to the delicate soft material of the chair itself. Whilst the Vellum wall lamp from Brabbu does not appear in the set image above, it is a perfect addition to the Desire chairs with its similar hammered matt brass finish. This particular wall light features in the entrance hall of Christian Grey's apartment and has a fantastic two tone finish, being polished on the inside to reflect the light and matt on the outside to emphasise the texture of the hammered brass.
