Sixty Soho, New York

When it comes to interior design, there is one type of space that lets creativity go wild, expressing in forms like no other. This space needs to impress an international community from the very first glance. Designs that have to constantly evolve, adapt and develop to trends, expectations and customer needs. I am of course talking about the design of a hotel. I have always found hotel design incredibly exciting, pushing an interior designer to their limits and allowing them to express a design through new materials and styles to attract the attention and lure guests to stay within the hotel walls. Sixty Hotel New York Lobby with industrial windows

Sixty Hotels is a stunning collection of five luxury boutique hotels located in New York, Los Angeles and Miami. It was Sixty Soho in New York that first caught my eye. A contemporary take on a characterful bohemian style, combining luxurious fabrics and finishes that give a soft and comforting essence. As soon as you walk through the doors of the hotel, you feel like you have arrived home.

The Gordon Bar and lobby feel like a home away from home. Layered rugs, soft sofas and furnishings and a roaring fire make you feel at ease, perfect for sitting back and enjoying a cocktail. I love the personal items and accessories used in this space such as the library books, sand timer, flowers and glassware. There are so many objects that can be interacted with in the room, used and moved that you almost feel as if you are making the space yours as you settle in.

It is not just the inside of the Sixty Soho that looks great, the outside does too! When you have a stunning view of Manhattan's iconic skyscrapers, you want to make the most of it. A perfect way for guest to take in their surroundings and appreciate the a moment of calm amongst the hustle and bustle of the Manhattan streets below. Bionic blue garden lounge chairs surround the exterior of the terrace amongst the foliage and potted plants. A beautiful and intimate space that changes with the lights of the city.

In contrast to the soft tones and homely furnishings of the Gordon Bar, we are introduced to the rich woods and defining lines of the Sessanta restaurant and bar. With such a beautiful and traditional maritime feel, Sessanta has been designed to give us a taste of Southern Italy, offering a menu of fine costal Italian and Sicilian cuisine. I love the contrasting relationships that develop between materials  in this space. We have the strict cut lines of the wooden paneling next to the wondering veins of marble used across many of the surfaces such as the bar and tables.

The luxury and comforts continue into the hotel rooms and suites with soft muted tones and plush fabrics throughout. The Sixty suite imaged above has a separate living area, allowing you to kick back, relax and enjoy the beautiful views of the city. The suite also has access to two bathrooms that make full use of the incredible marble finish. Accessories such as succulent plants and coffee table books have been carefully selected to add a personal and homely touch to the room and patterns have been softened to allow the guest to make the room their own. A personal favorite are the cushions used to accessorise the bed and lounge chairs.

If you are looking to stretch out in ultimate luxury, the Sixty Loft is sure to impress. Located at the top of the hotel, there is 1800 square feet of luxury space to enjoy over two levels. Stunning views of the Manhattan skyline can be enjoyed from your own private roof deck and to lure you back inside are two luxury bathrooms with separate shower and luxury soaking tub.

I have such a huge admiration for the designers of this hotel. To create a space that can appeal to a wide market yet have the personal accessories and touches to create a home away from home is no mean feat. Exceptional materials have been used and paired in unfamiliar ways to create a look and style that is not only luxurious but iconic for the hotel brand.
