Amara: The Winter Edit
Posted on 09 November 2016
Winter marks the biggest transition in the home. As the nights get longer and the cold sets in, many of us turn to making the most out of our spaces, adding cosy layers and soft comforts to keep us warm and get us through this beautiful but chilly season. It will come as no surprise that the majority spend much more time at home during the Winter months, opting to stay warm, snuggle up in front of the television or entertain guests within the comfort of our own surroundings. With this in mind, I wanted to showcase the very best in luxury design to help make the most from your home this Winter by talking to experts in the field. For my first edit of the year, I had the pleasure of speaking with Sam Hood, Creative Director and Head of Buying at Amara to find out the season's must have luxury items.
Tealights are the perfect way to add a touch of warmth to a room, cosy corner or dining table and these gorgeous Cubist tealight holders will definitely add the style to match. Candles and tea lights are an extremely popular choice in the home but the striking form and beautiful texture of Cubist adds a perfect Winter crossover.
So rightly said, rugs add a warming layer to any space, whether that be accessorising an item of furniture with a smaller rug or drape such as the featured Lewes Sheepskin or a larger design to dress the floor will always work wonders. It's the classic dreamy image of a beautiful rug in front of an open fireplace that give me inspiration for this time of year.
Not only do throws make a beautiful addition to the home, they are an accessory that can easily transform the look and style of a space or piece of furniture. When you are feeling the chill, having the luscious fabrics of the Wisconsin throw wrapped around you, adds instant worth, allowing you to enjoy a moment of calm.
These Waterford glasses will add a touch of sophistication to any table setting and are a great way to impress guests whilst entertaining. As Sam mentions, we are seeing a strong movement towards timeless pieces at the moment. Products that mix the beauty of traditional style with the functionality and precision of contemporary design.
As the long nights set in, lighting becomes increasingly important in the home. It is surprising just how much difference a carefully positioned lamp can make and, with a carefully selected hue, can transform a cold space into a calming sanctuary. The Ashland Table Lamp is the perfect example of contemporary luxury to inject style and warmth onto a side table or sideboard.
Scented candles are my biggest weakness and another easy way to add a simple seasonal twist. Selecting a fragrance that emphasises warming and spicey notes can add the feel or Winter to a space, complimenting it's look. As Sam mentions, burning a candle correctly can make it last for a long time, for this reason I would always recommend purchasing high quality candles for longevity in burning and scent.
For those looking to entertain at home, a crockery set will always be the centrepiece to a table setting. There are so many incredible designs out there that you are sure to find one to match the required look and style. Those looking to invest in a high quality set will find that they can last forever and the timeless design of the Haviland Dumo tableware means that people can appreciate it for the same amount of time too.
There have been some incredible finishes on cutlery in recent years but there is something about black cutlery that stands out above the rest. Simple in form, the Broadway cutlery set is a style that can easily work with either a modern or traditional table setting. This set will definitely be the talk of the table and feel great to use.
Make it even more difficult to wake up in the morning with luxury bed linen that you and your bed deserve. Nestling between the sheets, soft cushions and plush throws, you want a bed that feels as good as it looks which can definitely be achieved with a timeless style such as the Eve collection. When a bed is the centre of attention to a space, make sure that it looks it's best.
My favourite way to quickly transform the look of a space and give it that perfect seasonal feel is through the use of cushions. Something as easy as introducing a new colour, pattern or shape can make a sofa, arm chair or bed season ready, adding the cosy and inviting feeling that many of us aspire to achieve.
For those that are lucky enough to have an open fireplace at home, there is a growing range of beautiful accessories that effortlessly connect and compliment the style of a room. Sam's selection of the Eldvarm wood basket has to be one of my favourite designs, adding beauty and style to an item that is often overlooked.
With limitations of natural light during the Winter months, it is important to make the most of it in the home. As Sam mentions, reflective surfaces and mirrors are a great way to direct light around a room, focusing into areas that may be deprived of natural light. As night falls, the same can be created with artificial light, teaming this mirror up with the Ashland table lamp, providing beauty and light to any space.
I would like to thank Sam Hood and the Amara team for their contributions to my first Winter edit of the season. All the impressive items selected are available on the Amara website. Click the product title to be taken to the product page for further details.
