Bisazza New Collection Launch, Milan
Posted on 18 April 2017
During this year's Milan Design Week, I had the great pleasure of covering the launch of two very impressive collaborations for Bisazza by Greg Natale and Fernando & Humberto Campana. Not only was I able to experience the collection launches first hand, I felt very privileged to be given the opportunity to meet Rossella Bisazza and Greg Natale to discuss the designs, inspiration and processes that it takes to go from concept to final design, ready for a launch in the capital of luxury and design at their flagship showroom.
For the duration of my stay, I covered the launch of the two collections on the @bisazzalondon Instagram account through a series of images and live stories. I also was given the fantastic opportunity to interview Greg Natale about the collection and share this via a series of quotes. Capturing images of the designs, showroom and creators themselves, I was able to put together a collection of stories of my experience as it happened for our followers to see. These highlights and quotes from my discussion with Greg Natale can now be viewed in the Press section.
Greg Natale | Mosaico
Australian designer Greg Natale has created four new glass mosaic tile patterns, each one as beautifully striking as the next. Often associated with strong geometric pattern, Natale has created designs with a much more organic feel, inspired by nature and the beauty of irregularity. The most striking of the collection is "Malachite" displayed directly above with vivid swirls of greens and greys, taking its name and design from the malachite stone, a crystalline structure famed for its captured motion of swirls and lines. My personal favourite is "Groove" (top image above) particularly in the soft and subtle pink shades, inspired by the brain corals of the Great Barrier Reef, a direct connection to Natale's roots. "Fragment" and "Moire" complete the collaboration, the earlier able to evoke images of cracked earth, ice or glass, depending on the colours and finished used, (not displayed) the latter Moire, an optical illusion, capturing movement within each glance of the pattern.
Fernando & Humberto Campana | Cementiles
Brazillian designers Fernando and Humberto Campana have collaborated with Bisazza to create a striking new cement tile pattern for the Cementiles collection. Taking inspiration from the agate geode stone, commonly known for the beautiful variations in colour and mesmerising internal layers, the Campana brothers wanted to create a design that captured the layers of the stone whilst referencing back to the previous Sushi collection, created in 2002. The results are an effortlessly beautiful repeat pattern, available in blu (blue) gialla (yellow) rossa (red) and verde ((green) finishes that, whilst a strong pattern, does not detract from the overall style of an interior space.
The entire experience of Milan was one that I will never forget. I feel so privileged to have had the opportunity to work with the Bisazza team in Milan and London, giving me a better understanding of the brand and an appreciation for the diverse collections and bespoke styles that can be created to fulfill every design and project requirement. The two new collections continue to expand the Bissaza reach, covering contemporary style and educating people on the use of tiles and how they are not just for the kitchen and bathrooms.
