Färg & Blanche: The Baker's House
Posted on February 06 2019
Färg & Blanche present 'The Baker's House' during this year's Stockholm Design Week, showcasing twelve contemporary objects created by the designers.
A beautiful residence located in the Södermalm borough of Stockholm plays host to an impressive collection of designs created by Färg & Blanche at this year's Stockholm Design Week. The home, belonging to the family of designer Emma Marga Blanche, co-founder of Färg & Blanche showcases twelve contemporary pieces, each designed to relate to the home's ornate interior. During the week, visitors have the opportunity to book onto guided tours to take them around the house, witnessing the spectacular installations in person.
Constructed in 1889, the building was originally the home of Blanche's great, great grandfather Julius Westerdahl. The structure also contained a traditional Swedish crispbread bakery on the ground level which was, at the time, the family business. In tribute, one of the lighting designs created for the installation is constructed from coloured glass discs that resemble crackers, installed in the home's entryway and hung from the ceiling on illuminated beams of light to mimic the way crispbreads are hung out to dry after baking.
In the main living area on the upper floor, timber tables have been constructed with star-shaped bases to replicate the style of the beautiful parquet flooring, appearing to connect and grow from the original designs which, in turn, display contemporary objects and lighting designs.
The designers note that the creations have been set up in a way to enhance the interior spaces and not take anything away from the original fabric of the building, creating a striking dialogue that takes inspiration from the history and style of this beautiful home.
The Baker's House installation is located at Bondegatan 21A and is open to the public until 9th February 2019. Tours must be booked in advance.
