LINLEY: Masterpiece 2017
Posted on August 09 2017
LINLEY graced the Masterpiece stage this year with three bespoke designs that reimagine the office for a modern CEO.
LINLEY attracted the crowds once more with its impressive set of bespoke designs for this year's Masterpiece Fair at the Royal Hospital, Chelsea. Masterpiece is the leading international fair for art, antiques and design with a diverse collection of brands showcasing their work from luxury yachts to bespoke furniture design. Set against a rich background of blue hues and dark woods, this year's stand reimagined the office for the modern and sophisticated chief executive officer by creating three artistically beautiful and functional pieces of furniture.
Famed for their impressive and contemporary take on marquetry, The Cassiopeia Screen combines artwork on dividing screens with functionality and storage. Three panels rotate on brushed brass and polished aluminium supports displaying an interpretation of British artist Jonathan Yeo's earliest nude paintings 'Scarlett (Cassiopeia Study)' on one side and a valet and bar on the other. Clad in claret Connolly leather, two panels make up the valet, containing a coat hanger, circular mirror and walnut accessories tray. The third panel rotates to reveal a secretive bar with gallery rails to hold a beautiful set of crystal glasses and decanters.
The Fulbeck desk sets a new benchmark for craftsmanship and luxury design, combining the finest materials and the most intricate of detailing to create an artistic symbol that cannot be ignored. Designed with a contemporary office in mind, the desk has been constructed using English walnut sourced from the Fulbeck Estate in Lincolnshire. Running down the centre of the desk is a striking brushed brass plate, intricately hand-engraved by Dr Malcom Appleby, one of the world's finest shotgun engravers. Contained within the desk are battery cells that power multiple charging points, reducing the need for unsightly cables during meetings. The cells can simply be recharged overnight for convenience.
Complimenting the Fulbeck desk, the Rifle chair continues the association of shooting and the decorative details and luxury found in the construction of the finest rifles and shotguns. Crafted in Walnut, engineered brushed brass and polished aluminium, the curved seat rest of the chair and distinctive barrel-shaped legs are a continued reference to the form of a shotgun. Referencing the screen, the chairs have been upholstered in claret and tan Connolly leather, extracting the warmth from the wood and brass fixtures.
Every year LINLEY goes above and beyond to create intriguing concepts and inspirational design. In my third year of visiting the brand at Masterpiece, I am still overwhelmed by the quality and skill that this remarkable brand demonstrates year on year. For those that have not attended the Masterpiece Fair, I strongly recommend booking your tickets for the 2018 showcase and heading straight to the LINLEY stand when you do.
*Due to the popularity of the stand and talks going on, I was unable to photograph the Rifle chair. Photography of this chair can be seen using the link below.
