The House Fair: Styling Rooms
Posted on 17 May 2016
Next month I will be taking part in the very exciting project for The House Fair at Olympia called the Style Rooms. Between 22nd and 25th June, a room styled by myself will be on display at the exhibition alongside two other talented interior design bloggers. Based around the theme of Summer, we have sourced items from exhibitors at the show to create accessible luxury designs that can easily be recreated at home.
I have focused my space around the theme name "Summer Purity" designing a bedroom that emphasises the moment in time that you can open your windows and doors, allowing the breeze to flow through your home, creating the feeling of freshness. I have kept the colour palette to a minimum, using natural greens, crisp whites, antique brasses and simple blacks to add character and depth to a space without overpowering the light and airy design.
My sketch of the space illustrates the planned layout and style that I am working to achieve. Large feature items have been allocated their own spaces which have then been decorated with green and brass detailing, framed by the white of the space. Texture is really important in the design and I wanted interaction of each area to have a different feel such as the softness surrounding the bed, smooth finishes relating to the sideboard and metal finishes used on the lighting and seating area.
Nature has not only been reflected in the colours used within the space but also in the selection of accessories and artwork on display. I wanted to use visual references to beautiful plants and natural beauty within the artwork and the inclusion of plants and flowers to connect with the outside world.
