LINLEY: SS16 Collection Preview
Posted on 13 January 2016
When LINLEY asked me if I would like to preview the SS16 collection before it makes its way into their stores, I jumped at the chance! Always one to impress, LINLEY hosted their new collection against the stunning backdrop of the Academicians' Room at the Royal Academy of Arts in London.
As soon as I walked into the room, the first thing that caught my eye were the beautiful and very Spring like Henley Triangle marquetry designs. Each object is entirely unique with a different layout and mix of colours. The bright pink, vivid yellow and rich purple immediately remind me of Spring the freshness it symbolises.
Whilst the light and bright Spring tones appear quite elegant and feminine, the team at LINLEY have also designed a contrasting set to celebrate masculinity. The rich dark wood has been split into large geometric shapes with the use of a contrasting lighter wood. The solid divide and angular shapes force the wood grain into different directions, forming an incredible finish that is sure to catch the eye.
In classic LINLEY style, it is the smaller details that set the designs apart. These finer details add beautiful characteristics for you to discover as you interact and familiarise yourself with the product. I was incredibly impressed to find out that the lock on the Henley design is a diamond shape that has a half polished and half brushed finish to replicate the triangular pattern of the marquetry.
The hugely popular London marquetry cityscape of London has also evolved into multiple new world designs. It is fantastic to see so many new world icons appear on these boxes. Created with incredible skill and craftsmanship, using luxurious woods and stain in the beautiful form of marquetry. As you can see from the images below, every cityscape appears and fells completely different to the next.
My final design of discussion had to be one of the most iconic designs from LINLEY, the Aston chair. As I have featured many a time, in bright leather and even paperweight form, the Aston chair is one of my favourite designs of all time. This season there has been a play of fabrics and textures to transform the look and feel of it's iconic shape. As you can see from the use of textured grey and the silky smooth pink fabric, these new materials reflect the light in different ways, changing the presence of the chair.
As always, it has been a pleasure discovering the new treasures and styles for the Spring / Summer 2016 collection which will be available in store from March. To view the full range of products and designs that LINLEY currently has to offer, click HERE to view the official website and online store.
