Vitra invited a selection of lucky guests to attend a Christmas themed origami event at the Sky Garden to learn more about their iconic home accessories.

Inviting a selection of lucky guests to the Sky Garden at 20 Fenchurch Street in London, Vitra put on a breakfast with Christmas themed origami to get us in the festive mood as we discovered more about the brand's iconic home accessories. With views across the city in all directions and a beautiful table set out with the brands products, delicious foods and beautiful floral displays, I could not think of anywhere else that i would rather be.

The focus of my attention for most of the morning was spent on the Eames House Bird, a design classic that has always intregued me for as long as I can remember. Seeing this bird reminded me of all the beautiful homes I saw in magazines as a child, the bird perching on a shelf, coffee table or side table in the distance, but this time, it was holding the Girard Moon Ornament in its mouth as if it was flying back to the nest for Christmas. Other accessories on display was the Alexander Girard circular candle holders, classic trays with dot patterns and another personal favourite, the Nuage vases by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec that I first discovered during the Artek Workshop at Vista, Clerkenwell earlier in the year with their anodised finish and multiple compartments to create striking floral designs.

After breakfast and a chat about the beautiful home accessories, it was time to take part and learn the fascinating art of origami, with a Christmas twist. Guests had the opportunity to create a selection of Christmas tree decorations in the shape of stars from a series of metalic and vibrant papers. Not only did the finished product look great, it was a fantastic skill to learnto impress the family at Christmas. With minimal folds and a small amount of paper, it is easy enough for anyone to pick up to make their very own.

With food and festivities aside, the event was a great opportunity to meet with the team, learn more about the brand, its designs and impressive history. Being familiar with many of the iconic products released, it was wonderful to make the connections between the designers and the ethos of the brand, one that I cannot wait to explore in more detail.
